Decorate your Easter eggs

Decorate your Easter eggs

Decorating Easter eggs is an ideal activity for children. Not only does it allow them to express themselves artistically, but it is also a way to create family memories.
You can start by colouring the eggs with food paints or dyes. Then, let their imagination run wild to add patterns, designs or decorative elements such as glitter and ribbons.
The decorated eggs can then be used in an egg hunt or simply as centrepieces for your Easter table. A simple but joyful tradition to share with the little ones.
We’ll explain how!

Draining the eggs

This is the first thing you need to do. To do it, you obviously need eggs, but also a needle or skewer and a bowl. Follow these steps:

  • Wash and dry the eggs.
  • Using a large needle, pierce both ends of the egg, deep enough to break the yolk.
  • At one end of the egg, turn the needle in a circular motion to open the hole.
  • Holding the egg over a bowl, blow through the larger hole to make the yolk and white come out and fall into the bowl.
  • Gently rinse the emptied egg with cold water and leave it to dry completely.

Dyeing eggs

Your eggs are emptied and completely dry. You are ready for the second step. For this, you will need food colouring, white vinegar and transparent glasses.

  • Prepare the dye according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Fill glasses 3/4 full with water and add the dye and a little white vinegar.
  • Using a spoon, carefully place the eggs in the dye, taking care that they do not hit the bottom of the container and that their shells do not break. Make sure that the eggs are covered with coloured water.
  • Keep the eggs immersed in the dye until they take on the desired colour, which will take between 2 and 5 minutes. The longer they remain in the dye, the darker the colour will be.
  • Remove the eggs from the dye and leave them to dry completely before continuing with the decoration.

Egg decorating

There are thousands of ways to decorate Easter eggs. The simplest is probably to use acrylic paint and brushes or cotton buds.
We advise you to choose simple motifs, such as flowers, small dots, straight or broken lines, playing on the variety of colours to give a rich and festive look to your creation.
If you layer the colours, make sure you wait until the acrylic is dry before adding another layer.

Columbus hint

Don’t throw away the egg white and yolk that you have extracted from the eggs. Save them to make an omelette or a cake, for example.
