Christmas cookies
Among the many customs associated with the festive season, there’s one that’s particularly enjoyable: making Christmas biscuits. It’s an opportunity to spend some quality time together as a family. Children generally love helping to prepare these treats, and even more so decorating them.
Ingredients for 8 servings
- 1 Columbus egg + 1 egg white
- 250 g flour
- 125 g sugar
- 125 g soft butter
- 150 g icing sugar
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1 pinch salt
Preparation:
- Place the flour, sugar, salt and cinnamon in a bowl. Add the soft butter and knead with your fingertips. Then add the whole egg and mix until you have a smooth dough. Wrap in cling film and leave to rest in the fridge for at least an hour.
- Once the dough has rested, roll it out to a thickness of half a centimetre. Using Christmas-themed cookie cutters, make pretty designs such as stars and trees. Place them on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes at 180°C, until the biscuits are lightly coloured. Then leave the biscuits to cool completely.
- Prepare the icing by mixing the egg white and icing sugar. Pour the icing into a piping bag and cut off the end to create a small opening. You can then decorate your biscuits as you wish.
Columbus tip
Add colour to your biscuits. Separate the icing into as many colours as you like. Then add food colouring to obtain the desired colour. Pour the coloured icing into individual pockets and decorate your biscuits as you like. You can also add chocolate chips, sugar pearls, etc.
