Cooking eggs in the microwave
The microwave can heat food, which is containing water, very quickly. But the water can start to boil, which increases its volume considerably.
What happens if the food contains water in a confined space like for example an egg in its shell?
Boom! It explodes and you have cooked egg splattered all over the walls of your microwave. An experience to avoid at all costs.
Cooking the egg without the shell is not a miracle solution … the egg can also explode.
There are however solutions to cook eggs in the microwave. You just have to respect some rules! See here how to make a fried egg or an omelette in the microwave
Fried egg
- Break your egg into a microwave-safe dish.
- Season it with a pinch of salt.
- To prevent the yolk from exploding, pierce it slightly with a toothpick or fork.
- Cover the dish without closing it before putting it in the microwave for 30 seconds at 600 watts.
- Let stand for a few moments before eating.
Omelette
- Break the eggs into a microwave-safe dish.
- Beat the eggs and season them.
- Cook in the microwave for one minute.
♥ Columbus tip
If you prefer a more creamy omelette, consider adding a little milk (about 5 cl) to your preparation.
